The fascination with ancient alphabets and markings is alive and well as far as I’m concerned. Runes, which are normally associated with Anglo-Saxon culture, were in fact found all over Old Europe. There were variations on them, but they are all still recognizable as one family of Alphabetics (to coin a new word). There are elements here from Beowulf and those wonderful Anglo-Saxon riddles which are still good today. Good luck trying to figure them out. The bards of old weren’t trying to make it easy. They had long Winter nights to deal with and recitations of stories and riddles must have filled those ancient halls.
